A Write-up at THE STAR

This write-up was done on 15th April 2009 by
Tho Xin Yi (Email: thoxinyi@thestar.com.my) from The STAR newspaper
featuring Noodle Station @ Section 9, Shah Alam.
Thank you for his great comments, and you can read his write-up on Noodle Station food and beverages as per below:

NO PRIZES for guessing what Noodle Station specialises in — its name and logo tell one instantly that it offers long, curly noodles.

In fact, the chain of halal outlets prides itself on one special type of egg noodle made from a secret recipe. Different tastes: Springy Noodle with BBQ Honey Whole Leg Chicken (front) and Fried Springy Noodle with Thai Style. “I can only tell you that the ingredients are eggs and high protein flour, and no chemicals like preservatives and artificial colours are added,” Noodle Station licensing development head Wee Kim Khoon said.

Like other F&B industry players, Wee was driven by his love for food — noodles, in particular. “I like to eat noodles but as a consumer, I had no idea what was in the dough. So I decided to make my own noodles in mid-2005,” he said. Wee’s factory in Kota Baru, Kelantan, churns out noodles for supply to four branches and 11 licensees scattered around Peninsular Malaysia. Oodles of noodles: Springy Noodle with Fried Chicken Dumpling (left) and Springy Noodle with Chicken Leg Mushroom. The three years of his intensive research, which included trips to China, Thailand and Taiwan to acquire cooking tips from his friends, resulted in 39 types of noodle dishes. “We have soy sauce, garlic sauce, soup, shrimp sauce, tom yam and fried noodles,” Wee said.

Geoffrey Ang, owner of Noodle Station in Seksyen 9, Shah Alam, generously served us Springy Noodle with Chicken Leg Mushroom and Springy Noodle with Fried Chicken Dumpling in soy sauce, Springy Noodle with BBQ Honey Whole Leg Chicken in garlic sauce, Springy Noodle Soup with Tom Yam Seafood and Fried Springy Noodle with Thai Style. “The Fried Springy Noodle with Thai Style is a little bit spicy with peanuts, onion, garlic and chilli powder. “It’s like Pat Thai (Thai-style fried kuey teow) with our signature noodle,” Wee said.

Comfy: The simple but comfortable interior of Noodle Station in Shah Alam.

While ordinary noodles turn soggy rather quickly, those served in Noodle Station remained crisp and well, springy. Each of the noodle dishes we sampled found favour with its savoury taste and affordable price. None of the noodle dishes comes with a price-tag of more than RM8, except those topped with abalone clam. To ensure consistency, Wee said most ingredients used were centralised items from his factory, including the chilli flakes, tom yam paste, dumpling skin and shrimp sauce.

Delightful thirstquenchers: A variety of tantalising drinks is available at Noodle Station.

Aside from the noodle dishes, the outlet offers a variety of other food items, such as kuey teow, yellow mee, rice, Western food, bread, sandwiches and chicken wings. Even if one just wants a comfy place to hang out with friends over drinks, Noodle Station would not disappoint. It has an extensive drinks list with more than 160 types of espresso, iced coffee, coffee blended, gourmet tea, gourmet iced tea, hot and iced drinks, milk shake, non-coffee blended, fruit sorbet, smoothies, soda coolers, mocktails, juices and soft drinks ... we simply could not decide what to have! Wee recommended Mango Sorbet, Angel Face, Iced Honey Peach Fruit Tea, I Love You Lemonade, Sunrise, Teh Tarik Hazelnut, Iced Cream Cappuccino and Hazel Milk.

Tom yam choices: Springy Noodle with Tom Yam Seafood (top) and Springy Noodle Soup with Tom Yam Seafood. The delicate and colourful beverages won us over instantly, and they tasted good, too.

Other Noodle Station outlets in the Klang Valley are located at Giant Kota Damansara, Metro Point Complex in Bandar Kajang Ulu Langat, SACC Mall in Shah Alam, Alamanda Shopping Centre in Putrajaya, Aeon A2 Shopping Centre in Bandar Baru Ampang and Platinum Walk in Setapak.

Another two outlets will be opening in May, in Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur and Kelana Mall in Petaling Jaya.
